Introduction

Columbia College of Nursing -
Mount Mary College
Student Nurses Association

We are a group of student nurses who want to make a difference in our school and our community. Our mission is to promote participation in community affairs and activities geared towards improving health care and resolving related social issues. CMM SNA believes there is a need to represent ourselves to fellow students, the community, and others in the health care field as leaders and to prepare ourselves to take our place in the nursing profession. CMM SNA has a goal to help all of its members recognize and help meet the needs within our diverse community. We also want to help each member to develop personally, socially, and professionally.

"Nurses have come a long way in a few short decades. In the past our attention focused on the physical, mental, and emotional. Now we talk of healing your life, the environment, and the planet."

-Lynn Keegan, 1994

When you join CMM SNA you have the opportunity to join the Wisconsin Student Nurses Association (WSNA) and the National Student Nurses Association (NSNA). As a group, this gives us a voice in our state and across the nation. We can have a say in important issues that affect health care and more specifically nursing. Delegates within our group are chosen to represent us and sent to senate meetings.

Both the WSNA and NSNA hold annual and mid-year conferences. These are not only a lot of fun but provide an opportunity to meet other student nurses across the state or nation, attend informational sessions, and get information on job opportunities.

".the character of the nurse is as important as the knowledge she possesses"

-Jarvis, 1996
