Ella Grafton (1954-1969)

Ella Grafton, who was Associate Director of Columbia Hospital School of Nursing from 1954-1969, was graduated from Wooster College in Ohio in 1926 with a A.B. degree and from the University of Michigan School of Nursing in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1929. Following the retirement of Miss Ellen Anderson as Director of Nursing, Miss Grafton became Acting Director of Nursing until May of 1967 when the school and nursing service became completely separated.

Miss Grafton had the major responsibility for curriculum development and the student government. She was highly respected for her ability to correlate and plan students’ learning experiences in practice and theory. Her great understanding of student behavior is inestimatable. She retired in 1969.
