Caroline E. Martin (1909-1917)

Caroline (Carol) E. Martin, the first Director of Nursing of Columbia Hospital was born November 26, 1877. Miss Martin was graduated from Presbyterian Training School for Nurses in Chicago, Illinois in 1906. According to her obituary notice, which was dated January 14, 1953, she was at Columbia Hospital for eight years. She left Milwaukee for Columbia University in New York from which she received a Masters degree in 1930. She retired in 1942 from the post of “Head Superintendent of Nursing Department in Nebraska”.
