Location and Facility: Columbia College of Nursing Residence Hall is located in a residential neighborhood near Lake Michigan and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee on the city's east side. The Residence Hall is part of the Columbia Hospital campus. It is served by most of the city's major bus routes.

An eclectic assortment of shops, restaurants, and recreational facilities are nearby. From the Columbia College of Nursing campus, students are close to many of Milwaukee's finest attractions. The College is less than one mile from the beaches of Lake Michigan, and close to the Milwaukee Art Museum. Parks, bike trails, a golf course and tennis courts are a short walk from campus. The internationally-known Maier Festival Park, home of the famous Summerfest and ethnic festivals such as Festa Italiana and Irishfest, is a few short miles away. Columbia Residence Hall is a coed facility comprised of rooms on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th floors of the College. Courtesy Hours are in effect at all times.

Eligibility for Residence: To be eligible for residence in Columbia Residence Hall, you must be enrolled, either full or part-time, in the Columbia College-Mount Mary Nursing Program. Additionally, full-time students enrolled in Ascension affiliated academic programs can reside in Columbia Residence Hall. Full-Time students from approved non-Ascension affiliated institutions, such as the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, are also be eligible for residence. UWM students with less than four semesters in Columbia Residence Hall will be given first priority. Housing contracts are the for the entire academic year.

Deadlines for Applying: Housing is assigned on a first come, first serve basis. Columbia College of Nursing students are given priority status. To guarantee housing, get your application in early. The application process has ended for the 2005-2006 academic year.

Responsibilities and Privileges of Residency: As you consider living in Columbia Residence Hall, please read the following summary of the rules and regulations governing your stay at the College. You will receive a copy of the CCON Residence Hall Contract Book when you receive your contract. The Contract Book will include the following regulations and a more detailed description of each.

College housing, by its communal nature, requires residents to respect differing lifestyles and at the same time imposes certain restrictions on individual freedom. Residents are required to:

• Take responsibility for their own property to make sure their doors are closed and securely locked.
• Respect the property of Columbia Residence Hall and of other residents.
• Respect the dignity of each individual regardless of age, culture, faith, ethnicity, race, gender, sexual orientation, language, disability, or class.
• Comply with the rules and regulations established by the College. Failure to do so may result in the termination of housing privileges.
• Leave common area spaces used by residents, such as the Campus Center, kitchen, fitness room, laundry room, lounges, hallways, stairwells, and elevator, in a clean, safe, and undamaged condition at all times.

Telephone Service: It is the responsibility of the resident to bring a phone and obtain phone service from the local telephone company, SBC Ameritech (800-924-1000). You will need to know your room number before you call SBC Ameritech. There are free floor phones to receive incoming calls and a pay phone is located in the Campus Center.

Because there is only one phone line in each room, only one roommate can sign up for DSL service. However, both roommates can share the DSL service (both the service and the cost) by setting up a network in the room. Click here to learn more about what you need to set up a mini network.

Helene Fuld Computer Lab: A computer lab is located on the first floor of the Residence Hall. The computer lab features 13 networked IBM computers, 2 laser printers, 2 color printers, and a scanner. All computers have Microsoft Windows 2000, Microsoft Office XP, and nursing software installed. The computer lab is available to all Columbia residents 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. However, only Ascension affiliated residents have access to the Internet.

Campus Center: The Campus Center is located in the basement. It is available to all students and has a large screen TV with a VCR/DVD player, pool table, dart board, piano, fitness room, and a kitchenette with microwave ovens and a refrigerator.

Rooms: The rooms are 17' x 12' for a Double, and 12' x 10' for a single. Each room has a private full bathroom, 2 extra long bunkable beds, 2 built-in closets with drawers, 2 desks with chairs, 2 end-tables, 2 lamps, and 2 garbage cans. Microfridges: This year (2003-2004), CCON has rented MicroFridges for each residence hall room. The one piece unit includes a refrigerator, freezer, and microwave unit. Therefore, there is no need for residents to bring refrigerators to campus this year. Please leave them at home. Also, remember that the only microwaves allowed in resident rooms are the ones we are providing. No other microwaves will be allowed.

Furnishings: Residents are encouraged to bring items to make their room personalized. Halogen lamps, air conditioners, subwoofers, and open element heating units are not permitted. Students often bring carpeting, televisions, posters, small couches, additional light sources, and linens. All rooms have a private bathroom are are furnished with an extra long twin bed, night-stand, desk, chair, lamp, and a built in dresser-closet unit for each student.

Security: Each resident will be issued a photo ID card and should carry it at all times. This will identify that the student is a resident of Columbia Resident Hall. In addition, the photo ID will be needed to gain access to the Resident Hall (the building is locked at night), the kitchen, the exercise room, the computer lab, and the elevator. Each floor is locked for added security. Security is handled by the Columbia Hospital Security team.

Staff: A Resident Assistant (RA) is housed on each floor of the Resident Hall. The RA's are trained to serve as advisors, programmers, educators, and the administrator for his/her floor.

During business hours, the Office of Residence Life is available to assist students in any possible way. The Coordinator, Residence Life is available on-call during evenings and weekends.

Kitchen: A full service kitchen is located on the first floor and is available to students at all times. The kitchen includes a microwave and a commercial oven/stove. Pans and utensils can be checked out from the front desk.

Laundry: Laundry Machines are available in the Campus Center for resident use. They are operated by a prepaid $65 (a $10 refund will be issued when the used card is returned to The Office of Resident Life) laundry card which can be purchased through the Office of Resident Life. Laundry costs $1 per load.

Vacuum Cleaners: Vacuum cleaners can be checked out from the front desk.

Payments: We accept personal checks, money orders, cash, Visa, Mastercard, and American Express. Checks should be made payable to Columbia College of Nursing. There is a $25 fee for late payments, returned checks, and charge card declines.

You will receive an invoice from the Business Office prior to the start of your contract period. Full semester payment is required prior to move-in. CCON students may apply for a payment plan. There is a $50 per semester fee for this payment action.

Columbia Residence Hall has an optional dollar value meal plan. Students purchase meals at the Columbia Hospital cafeteria or in the hospital's Terrace Room Restaurant. The value of the food item(s) purchased is deductible from the meal plan balance. The advantage of this program is that the resident only pays for what they eat. Students will be informed by the Business Office if a shortage is projected based on their food purchases. Additional increases to a plan may be made in $100 increments (at any time during the contract period) with an additional $30 fee.
